Hopefully I'm inching ever closer to my goal of doing proper justice to a recreation/imagining of the UK. Between new NAM releases and other custom content, along with my own, my game is always evolving. In this way, SC4 has evolved for me into something way beyond a game I play. But so far it's led to learning a lot of new skills, I never even thought I'd be capable of achieving. Even when I was making my first texture mods, I always assumed I'd hit a limit where my talent (or lack thereof) for artistic things was hit. Without any intentions of doing so I ended up down the rabbit hole of Lotting, Modding and now even BATing too. With SC4 I started dabbling with simple lots and trying to personalise my game. In that way, their longevity comes at least in part from them being fresh with new goodies if you pick them up again later. But then both also share a modding community that transforms the base game into something much greater than the original release too. I guess that's at least in part because I like playing with trains and transport, as such I never found the others so captivating. The only exceptions to that are Transport Tycoon Deluxe / OpenTTD and then SimCity 4. I did play the first couple rollercoaster tycoon games, but like so many of these simulators, I just never got hooked long-term. Theme Hospital was great, lots of fond memories there, Theme Park wasn't bad either. Since then I've dabbled with many of the XXX Tycoon / Sim XXX / Theme XXX games over the years.

Way back on an old DOS PC (latest tech at the time) I remember seeing Railroad Tycoon for the first time.

I generally place trashcans on both sides of a "food center" and by the exit to a ride.īroadly speaking I guess most simulator games have some similarities. In RCT, the trash is managed by hiring and giving handymen patrol areas, and by placing trash cans. In SC4, the trash is manged by making a neighbor deal if available, zoning landfill zones, building a recycling center, building a trash-to-power power plant(those are really effective for emptying out lanfill, usually almost emptying them in just a few game years), and I think some of the ordinances have an influence on the trash as well. In RCT, they are monitored by keeping and eye on the park rating, as generally a sudden drop in the park rating means that there is a place where a handyman is not zoned and thus is accumulating trash. In SC4, these are monitored by the graph and map that show how much trash is accumulating.

After the goal is achieved, the player can go on to either the next scenario or spend time "fine tuning" the park by putting down landscaping, making the rides fancier by making stuff like stations for the entrance/exit, etc.įor example in both games the trash/pollution has to be monitored/managed. These can usually be achieved by plonking down or building rides, maintaining the park, and running advertising campaigns. that have to be achieved in 2-3 game years. In RCT, you have to build a sucessful park, and there are goals such as number of people in the park, etc. There are excetions to this of course, for example, if I have to build up the amount of money I have in a city, I do that even before I look into increasing services.

Generally, if I am making more than $1000 a month I look into what services I can increase. I sorta go for providing the most services. Perhaps success is making the most money, perhaps it is providing the most services, whatever. In SC4, you have to build a sucessful city, with sucess being defined by the player of course. Well, any way, RCT and SC4 are similar in may ways. Sometimes I faff about with online games, and solitaire, and at one point I tried the Tomb Raider games, but for those I had to print out the guides from Stella's site and save about every 3 steps to make it through those. The only 2 games I really play are SC4 and Rollercaoster tycoon.
